To prevent Microsoft Outlook from connecting to the Internet automatically, follow the steps below for your version of Outlook.

Microsoft Outlook 2000 users

Select Tools from the drop-down menu.
Click Options.
Click the Mail Delivery tab.
Uncheck the option to check for messages every x minutes.

Additionally, Microsoft Outlook 2000 users can also have Outlook prompt on dial-up connection through this window.

Microsoft Outlook 9x users

Select Tools from the drop-down menu.
Click Services.
Highlight “Internet Mail” and click Properties.
Click the Connection tab.
At the bottom of the Connection tab, either specify work offline or change the scheduling to a higher number.
