Introduction

Important before you proceed: If you use this guide, you do so at your own risk. In no way is Mad Hatter VR, LLC or its members responsible for any damage or malfunctions caused by using this guide.

What you need

Step 1

              Opening the HDK
  • Lay HDK headset face down. Remove the two Phillips #00 screws from the bottom.
  • Turn upright and gently pull face plate forward. (Pulling forward and to the left will help avoid strain on the tracking ribbon cables.) There’s two grooves to help with this on the top part. It’s a magnetic plate, does not take much effort.
  • The “infamous” face plate connector is on the inside between the board and face plate. I marked the approximate location in red here, be careful when opening not to pull hard as people have stated that it breaks easily rendering your headset positional tracking useless if the connector tears off. (If it just disconnects, see below to reconnect.)

Step 2

              Exchanging the Face Plate
  • The connector is held together by tape. Gently peel the tape away. The male and female parts are just barely interlocking.
  • There’s suppose to be a very slight click when attaching the new connector together - be sure to assemble the two halves flat. Once that is done, tape it back together.

To reassemble your device, follow these instructions in reverse order.
