Introduction

It is recommended to clean your sparkplugs when a warm start is difficult or slowing down seems unstable. Dirty sparkplugs can result in a weaker spark or even no spark at all.

The lifespan of a sparkplug varies between 30,000 to 60,000 km (18,640 to 37,280 miles), depending on the brand and use of the vehicle.

What you need

Step 1

              Introduction               
  • Open the engine hood of the vehicle, using the lever located bottom left of the dashboard, by the pedals.
  • Locate and then disconnect the car battery.

              Ignition Coil Connector (Part 1)               
  • Identify the ignition coil pack connector.

              Ignition Coil Connector (Part 2)               
  • Press the locking rod near the bottom to release the connector.
  • Disconnect the ignition coil connector.

Step 4

              Remove the ignition coil pack (Part 1)               
  • Locate the six H4 screws on the ignition coil pack.
  • Use an H4 (or T30) screwdriver to unscrew the six screws.

Step 5

              Remove the ignition coil pack (Part 2)               
  • Grip the ignition coil pack on both sides and pull it directly upwards to remove it.

Step 6

              Disassemble the spark plugs               
  • Locate the four spark plug chambers.
  • Grab a spark plug wrench (size 16mm).
  • Insert the wrench into the first spark plug chamber, until you reach the bolt.
  • Certain spark plug wrench are equipped with a rubber joint to help with extracting the spark plug. It is therefore necessary to apply light pressure to correctly reach the spark plug’s bolt.
  • Unscrew the first spark plug, remove it from its chamber.
  • Continue in the same manner for the other three spark plugs.

Locate the four spark plug chambers.

Grab a spark plug wrench (size 16mm).

Insert the wrench into the first spark plug chamber, until you reach the bolt.

Certain spark plug wrench are equipped with a rubber joint to help with extracting the spark plug. It is therefore necessary to apply light pressure to correctly reach the spark plug’s bolt.

Unscrew the first spark plug, remove it from its chamber.

Continue in the same manner for the other three spark plugs.

Step 7

              Clean and replace the spark plugs               
  • You can now proceed to clean or replace the spark plugs.
  • The cleaning of a spark plug can be done with contact cleaner and a brass brush.
  • To reinstall the spark plugs, repeat this procedure in reverse.
  • When reinstalling, be sure to rest the spark plug as straight as possible, to align the thread axes of each spark plug. The recommended tightening torque is 29Nm (21.4 lbft)

You can now proceed to clean or replace the spark plugs.

The cleaning of a spark plug can be done with contact cleaner and a brass brush.

To reinstall the spark plugs, repeat this procedure in reverse.

When reinstalling, be sure to rest the spark plug as straight as possible, to align the thread axes of each spark plug. The recommended tightening torque is 29Nm (21.4 lbft)

To reassemble your vehicle, follow the instructions in reverse order.
