The sander will not respond or show any sign of turning on.
Dust could be trapped inside the switch. Remove top cover by unscrewing and clean around switch by blowing gently to remove dust.
If you have tried cleaning out the dust, the switch may be faulty and need to be replaced. Replace switch using this guide: Ridgid R2601 Power Switch Replacement
If you have tried replacing the switch, but the sander still won’t turn on, the adapter may be faulty. Consider replacing the power supply cord using this guide: Ridgid R2601 Power Cord Replacement
The sander slows down when in use and/or stops working
Remove the padding on the bottom and check to see that the bearing assembly is sealed properly underneath and all ball bearings are in place. If not, remove and replace it.
Over time, the brushes can get worn down and can cause the sander to lose torque when the sander is applied to the surface . Order replacement brushes and replace.
Strip the motor down and use a voltmeter to find out where a problem with the electrical connection exists, or check if your extension cord is too loose. If any problems are found it is likely the motor will need to be replaced with this guide here: link.
Speed remains constant and does not respond when speed dial is used.
If the variable speed dial is jammed, check to see if there are no foreign objects blocking it internally by removing the top cover.
If the variable speed dial is not clicking, it means it is worn down. You will need to order a replacement speed dial. Then replace the speed dial.
Check to see that all of the screws are correctly put into place. If there are any missing, order a replacement. Re-screw any screws that are out of place or not tight.
If the screws are all in order, you may need a new brake disc. Remove the screws from the hook and loop disc assembly, take off the hook and loop assembly device, then remove and replace the brake disc.
