Test pressing the buttons or moving the joystick. If they seem to stick or grind against the casing, there may be dirt or foreign particles inside the button housing. First try a Q-tip slightly damp with rubbing alcohol, or try scrubbing with a soft electronics cleaning brush. If this fails, try a can of compressed air.

If the buttons do not stick but are unresponsive, it could be a problem with the software, try restarting the device.

If cleaning and restarting have not fixed the problem, the button or joystick may be faulty. However, many of the controls can be accessed on screen with the stylus. As a workaround, replace the buttons and joystick controls with a USB or bluetooth connected keyboard and mouse.
